Each ARP stud is precisely heat-treated to 200,000 psi and then centerless ground to ensure exceptional concentricity and straightness. This meticulous manufacturing process, involving about ten very slight cuts, results in a part that is far superior to lesser quality studs that are merely thread rolled in bar stock form, often before heat-treatment when the material is easier to machine.
The attention to detail in ARP's manufacturing process pays dividends in the final product. Gaskets and cylinder heads literally glide into position and are perfectly aligned when using ARP studs, something that won't happen with inferior quality head studs. Additionally, ARP studs are thread rolled after heat-treat, giving them about 1000% (or ten times) better fatigue strength than those studs that are threaded prior to heat-treat.
For certain engines, ARP offers specially undercut studs. This procedure, done only to the shorter studs, more evenly distributes the "stretch" of both studs, resulting in a more consistent clamping force. This helps compensate for head gasket compression when the head is installed, preventing blown head gaskets and ensuring optimum sealing.
